Biological Approach Flashcards
1
Q
What is the biological Approach?
A
- Investigates how genes, hormones, evolution and the nervous system affect behaviour
- tries to explain behaviour using biological causes
2
Q
What are twin studies
A
- used to investigate the genetic basis of schizophrenia
- identical twins (monozygotic) share a higher percentage of genes than dizygotic so are more likely to suffer from the same psychological illness if the cause is biological
3
Q
What are adaption studies
A
- also used to demonstrate the genetic basis for schizophrenia. if an adaptated child has schizophrenia and their biological parent also suffers from the illness but their adaptatif parent does not - there is a biological explanation for this
4
Q
What is a genotype
A
genetic material passed between generation
5
Q
what is a phenotype
A
observable characteristics the gene produces
