BIOL Lab 5: DNA Flashcards
DNA Extraction
Samples must be connected be collected and the DNA in those samples must be separated from the cells themselves in order to conduct an analysis on the pure DNA.
DNA Cut with Restriction Enzymes
The DNA samples must be exposed to enzymes that cut the DNA at very specific places to produce an unique DNA fingerprint for each individual involved in the investigation.
DNA Run on a Gel Electrophoresis
The cut DNA samples are put in a gel matrix and subjected to an electrical charge to separate out the DNA fragments by size. This produces a visual representation of the unique DNA fingerprints of the individuals.
Restriction Enzymes
They “cut” the DNA sample at very specific base pair sites.
