Biofuels Flashcards
What is a biofuel?
Fuel made from biological material (i.e. glucose)
What is one ethical issue of biofuels?
> Food supplies may deplete as crops are used for biofuels instead
What issue of biofuels involves habitats?
> To make land for biofuel crops requires deforestation (cutting down trees)
This destroys habitats
Why may biofuels be bad for the atmosphere?
As biofuels require deforestation, there will be less trees overall to absorb CO₂ and more CO₂ polluting the atmosphere
Why may biofuel pollute water?
Biofuels require fertilisers which can pollute water
What is an advantage of biofuels in terms of their source?
Glucose and other biological material are renewable
Why may biofuels be good for the atmosphere?
Unlike fossil fuels
