What do we consider when treatment planning?
individual diagnosis, risk assessment, goal statement, contraindications, modifications for special needs
Informed consent
voluntary persons agreement to allow something to happen based on full disclosure of facts required to make intelligent decision
Considerations: health literacy, diagnosis, recommendations, rationale, benefits, risks, alternatives, prognosis if no treatment
Is antibiotic prophylaxis needed for polishing?
YES; part of debridement
Are stains removed for health or esthetic reasons?
esthetics; stains are not etiological factor for disease
Do we polish after scaling if the gingiva is inflammed?
NO; particle impaction risk due to tissue being loose and open in areas on inflammation
How does particle size of prophy paste affect stain removal
size affects cleaning rate and scratch pattern produced on surface
Most abrasive size?
Course; we do not use this in clinic

light pressure (just enough to flare cup)
