bioenergetics-definitions Flashcards
aerobic respiration
respiration where oxygen is used to release lots of energy
anaerobic respiration
respiration where oxygen is not used and only releases a small amount of energy
cellular respiration
An exothermic reaction that is continuously occurring in living cells.
inverse proportion
A relationship between two values whereas one value increases, the other value decreases at the same rate.
inverse square law
As the distance from a light source increases, the light intensity is inversely proportional to the distance squared.
limiting factor
the factor that is slowing down the rate of photosynthesis when it is not present
metabolism
the sum of all the reactions in a cell or the body
oxygen debt
the amount of extra oxygen the body needs after exercise to react with the built-up lactic acid and remove it from the cells
photosynthesis
the process by which plants make glucose using carbon dioxide water and sunlight
