What does biodiversity mean?
Biodiversity is the variety of all living things on earth.
Why would an area be said to have high biodiversity?
Areas of high biodiversity have lots of different plant and animal species.
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is made up of a Habitat and a Community
What is a habitat?
The place where an organism lives.
What is a community?
The group of organisms that live in a particular area.
What is a biome?
Biomes are areas of the planet with similar climates, landscapes, animals and plants.
What is grouping things based on shared characteristics called?
Classification
What is the difference between vertebrate and invertebrate?
Vertebrate have a backbone while invertebrate do not and instead have a exoskeleton.
What are the characteristics of reptiles?
Have a skeleton/backbone, Cold blooded, Dry scales, Often lay eggs.
What are the characteristics of amphibians?
Have a skeleton/backbone, Cold blooded, Wet, soft skin, Lay eggs (only in water).
What are the characteristics of mammals?
Have a skeleton/backbone, Warm blooded, Skin coated in fur, Give birth to live young, Feed young with milk.
What are the characteristics of birds?
Have a skeleton/backbone, Warm blooded, Feathers, Lay eggs.
What are the characteristics of fish?
Have a skeleton/backbone, Cold blooded, Wet scales, Fins and gills, Line in water, Often lay eggs.
How do you use of branching key?
You look at the thing your trying to identify and if it’s yes you would follow one way and if it’s no you would follow the other key until you identify your species.
What does adaptation mean?
Animals and plants are adapted to their habitats. This means that they have special features that help them to survive.
