Biodiversity & Ecosystems Flashcards
Keystone Species
A species that is depended on by other species in an ecosystem, if removed the ecosystem would change drastically.
Abiotic Factors
Non- living elements in ecosystems.
e.g. sun, water, soil.
Biotic Factors
Living elements in an ecosystem.
e.g. Plants, animals, predators, prey.
Species
A group of similar organisms that can breed and produce fertile offspring with similar characteristics.
Population
A group of individuals that belong that belong to the same species and live in the same area.
Community
A group of populations inhabiting the same region and interact with each other.
Ecosystem
A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
5 Trophic levels
Heterotrophs, Autotrophs, decomposers, producers, consumers.
Interactions in an ecosystem
Competitions, Predation, Symbiosis.
Biodiversity
The variety of genes, species and ecosystems in our world
