Much like a quadrat. Measures the Number of species per area sampled
Rarefaction curve
Like a transect, measures number of species per individual counted

Movement of air between 0° and 30°N and 30°S
1) warm air expands and cools at the top
2) causes precipitation then cool air moves away from equator to surface
3) at surface the air absorbs moisture causing dry regions
4) moves back to equator to repeat process
