BIO SA Flashcards
Biology
The study of life.
Biologist
The scientist who study about living organism.
Organism
Living things that has an organized structure, react to stimuli, reproduce, grow, adapt, and mantain homeostasis.
Scientific Method
- Observation and Question
- Research
- Hypothesis
- Experiment
- Analysis and conclusion
- Share the result
Hypothesis
Our prediction for the experiment.
Types of Variables
- Dependent
- Independent
- Controlled
Dependent Variable
A variable that is affected by the independent variable and will be measured in the experiment
Independent Variable
A variable that is changed throughout the experiment
Controlled Variable
A variable that will always stay the same in the experiment
MRS GREN
Movement, Respiration, Sensing, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.
Heterotroph
Living things that get food by eating other living things.
Autrotoph
Living things that can make their own food by photosynthesis.
Vertebrates
Animals that have a backbone like mammals, fish, birds, amphibians, and reptiles.
Invertebrates
Animals that don’t have a backbone like Arthropods, Molluscs, Echinoderms, Cnidarians, Annelids, Nematodes, Flatworms.
Flowering plants
Plants that produce flowers like monocotyledons and dicotyledons.
Non-flowering plants
Plants that don’t produce flowers like moss, fern, and conifers.
Monocots
These flower’s petals are in 3’s
Dicots
These flower’s petals are in 4’s or 5’s
Ecosystem
An ecosystem is a relatively self-contained community of interacting organisms and the environment they live in, and interact with.
Source of energy in the ecosystem
The sun
Photosynthesis
When plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make their own food, and also oxygen.
Energy conversion in Phtosynthesis
Light Energy —–> Chemical Energy
Transfer of Energy
Something that involves the living things with different levels such as producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers.
Biomass
The amount of materials in a plant or
any living organisms.
