bio part of psychology Flashcards
Axon
Passes the information along to other neurons, muscles, or glands. Extension of the neuron.
Cell Body
The cell’s life support center which surrounds the nucleus.
Dendrites
The bushy, branchy extensions of a neuron that receives massages and conduct impulses toward the body.
Myelin
A layer of fatty cells segmentally encasing the fibers of many neurons; makes possibly vastly greater transmission speed of neural impulses
Node of Ranvier
A gap in the myelin sheath and is used for faster transfer of chemical signals
Nucleus
Acts as the brain of the cell which controls eating, movement, reproduction and contains genes
Synaptic/Axon Terminal
Found at the end of the never cell and receives chemicals or neurotransmitters into the neuron
