Bio- enzymes Flashcards
What enzyme works in the mouth?
Amylase
What enzyme works in the stomach
Pepsin
What enzyme works in the start of small intestine
Amylase
What enzyme works in small intestine part 2
Protease
What enzyme works in the small intestine in part 3
Lipase
What enzyme in the intestine wall
Assorted carbohydrase
What enzyme is in the caecum to chemically digest cellulose
Cellulase
What places are the enzyme amylase found
Salivary glands, pancreas, small intestine
Where is the enzyme lipase found
Pancreas and small intestine
Where is the enzyme protease found
Stomach, pancreas, small intestine
Waist is made when amylase works in the places they are at
Carbohydrates to maltose
What is made in the places where lipase work
Lipids convert to fatty acids and glycerol
What does the enzyme protease convert food to
Protein converts to amino acids
What does the enzyme maltose in the places it works convert food to
Maltose converts to glucose
What is an enzyme
A biological catalyst that speeds up the reaction
How do enzymes work
Enzymes are specific and have to have the right active site, shape and size like a key hole. Enzymes have to work at a specific temp and PH
Amylase works best at a temperature and PH of
PH 7 and and as in mouth temperature around 37
Pepsin works best in a PH of
1or2 so found in stomach where acidic
Lipase works best in PH of
7-8
What is bile
Bile is not an enzyme. Bile is produced by the gall bladder, it emulsifies globules( break down big globules if fat to smaller globules. This increases the surface area for digesting enzymes to work on.
