an organization is the collection of rights/responsibilities of responsibilities, but also the feelings/behavior of people.

- TPS - transaction processing system. monitors every process/transaction made. serves operational managers
- MIS - management information system. summarizes the TPS data and creates a report for middle managers to use.
- DSS - decision support system. for middle managers with non-routine decisions
- ESS - Executive support system, for senior executives to make non-routine deciisons

the use of social networking to engage employees/customers and deepen interaction

this matrix takes into account of time and place.
1. Face-to-face interaction - this is used for when time is same and place is same
2. Remote interaction - this is for when time is same but place is different
3. continuous tasks - used for when time is different and place is same. meeting rooms and displays are used
4. communication + coordination for when place and time is different. emails, bulletins are used.

IT reduces agency costs through less supervision costs
