BILIARY STRICTURE Flashcards
This refers to any abnormal growth or lesion within
the duodenum, which is the initial
segment of the small intestine following
the stomach. A mass of irregular,
fast-growing cells (tumor) in the first
portion of the small intestine. This tumor
may prevent the intestine from properly
digesting food and block food from
passing through the intestines.
Duodenal Mass
Involves narrowing or
constriction of the bile ducts, impairing
the flow of bile from the liver to the
intestines.
Biliary Stricture
This term refers to the bile ducts,
which are a series of tubes that carry
bile from the liver to the small intestine.
Bile helps in the digestion of fats.
Biliary
A narrowing or
constriction of a tubular structure
Stricture
● Abdominal pain, particularly in
the upper abdomen
● Jaundice due to bile duct
obstruction
● Nausea
● Vomiting
● Unintentional weight loss
● Changes in bowel habits such as
diarrhea or constipation
Clinical signs and symptoms of biliary stricture
(also called a
pancreaticoduodenectomy) is the
primary surgical treatment for
pancreatic cancer that occurs
within the head of the gland.
Whipple’ Procedure
Gastric bypass
procedure involves creating a
stomach pouch out of a small
portion of the stomach and
attaching it directly to the small
intestine, bypassing a large part
of the stomach and duodenum.
Roux En Y or hepaticojejunostomy
It is a surgery to open up the belly area
(abdomen). This surgery is done
to find the cause of problems
(such as pain or bleeding) that
testing could not diagnose. It’s
also used when an abdominal
injury needs emergency medical
care. This surgery uses one large
cut (incision). The provider can
then see and check the organs
inside the abdomen. If the cause
of the problem is found during
the procedure, then treatment is
often done at the same time
Exploratory Laparotomy
It is a type of
gastric/intestinal bypass
procedure. It connects your
stomach directly to the middle
part of your small intestine
(jejunum), bypassing the first
part (duodenum).
Gastrojejunostomy or Billroth II
It is surgery to
remove the appendix when it is
infected.
Appendectomy
It is a procedure that combines upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and x-rays to find and treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts.
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Medications for pain:
Ketorolac upon procedure
Tramadol as needed
Paracetamol give after ketorolac
Celecoxib
