Innervation
Function
Innervation:
Cranial Nerve XI: aka Accessory Nerve
Elevates and rotates the scapula,
Middle fibers retract scapula,
Lower fibers depress scapula
Attachments, Movements
4 Orig.
1 Insert.
Orig. Spinous process of lower six thoracic vertebrae, Thoracolumbar fasia to the spinous processes of the lumbar vertebrae, Iliac crest, Lower 3-4 ribs.
Insert. Floor of intertubercular sulcus.
Move. Adduction, Medial rotation, Extension.
Latissimus Dorsi Innervation
Thoracodorsal Nerve.
Identify these muscles. What do they hold in place?

Rhomboid Major
Scapula.
Levator Scapula
A?
N?
F?
Origin: Transverse process of C1 and C2 and Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C3 and C4.
Insertion: Posterior surface of medial border of scapula from superior angle to root of the spine of the scapula.
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
Elevates Scapula
Trio innervation
Rhomboid Minor
A?
N?
F?
Origin: Lower end of ligamentum nuchae. Spinous proesses of C7 and T1.
Insertion: Posterior surface of medial border of scapula at the root of the spine of the scapula
Dorsla Scapular Nerve.
Elevates and Retracts Scapula.
Downward rotation of Scapula.
Rhomboid Major
A?
N?
F?
Origin: Spinous processes of T2-T5 and intervening supraspinous ligaments.
Insertion: Posterior surface of medial border of scapula from root of the spine of the scapula Inferior angle.
Dorsal Scapular Nerve.
Elevates and retracts scapula.
Downward rotation of scapula.
Triceps Brachii

Long head:Origin: Infraglenoid tubercle on scapula.
Insertion: Medial and lateral heads of olecranon process on the ulna. (Common tendon insertion)
Radial Nerve
Extension of forearm and at glenohumeral joint.
Accessory adductor!!!!
