Biblical world views Flashcards
What is a Christian Worldview?
A Christian worldview refers to a comprehensive perspective through which followers of the Christian faith interpret and understand the world, life, and existence. It is a framework that shapes their beliefs, values, and decision-making processes, based on the teachings of the Bible and the life and teachings of Jesus Christ
- Belief in God:
- Human Nature: humans are created in the image of God, but as a result of the fall, they are inherently flawed… Redemption and salvation are central to the Christian worldview
- Divine Purpose: God has a purpose and plan for all creation
- Morality and Ethics: living according to God’s moral standards, as revealed in the Bible. Love, compassion, forgiveness, and justice
- Salvation and Redemption: salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ, who died for the forgiveness of humanity’s sins. It highlights the importance of personal transformation
- Eternal Life: It emphasizes the belief in an afterlife and the eternal nature of the soul. According to the Christian worldview, individuals will be judged based on their faith and actions, leading to either eternal life or separation from God.
Explain Saul’s conversion
Saul’s conversion, as recorded in Acts 9:1-19, is a pivotal event in the early Christian narrative. Prior to his conversion, Saul, also known as Paul, was a devout persecutor of Christians. He was on his way to Damascus with the intention of arresting followers of Jesus when a bright light from heaven suddenly surrounded him. Falling to the ground, he heard a voice asking why he was persecuting Jesus.
Saul, trembling and astonished, asked what he should do. The voice identified itself as Jesus and instructed Saul to go into the city, where he would be told what to do. Blinded by the light, Saul was led into Damascus by his companions. In the city, a disciple named Ananias received a vision from the Lord, instructing him to find Saul and restore his sight.
Initially hesitant due to Saul’s reputation, Ananias obeyed God and visited Saul. He laid his hands on him, and something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, restoring his sight. Ananias then baptized Saul, and he regained his strength. Immediately, Saul began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, proclaiming that Jesus is the Son of God. This marked the beginning of Saul’s transformation into the influential apostle Paul, who would go on to become one of the most significant figures in the spread of Christianity.
