What is entrained rhythm and free-running rhythm?

Entrained rhythm – in the light dark
Free-running rhythm – without the light dark cycle – slightly longer.

What is the suprachiasmatic nucleus and how does this help its role?
A
The suprachiasmatic nucleus is in the hypothalamus and is just above the optic chiasm. It gets light input from special class of retinal ganglion cells, and it uses that to synchronize the biological clock to the night day cycle.
