Q

Use of dancers

A

-At beginning - alpha male soloist - tall and athletic build - leader of the pack - asserting dominance and leadership - walks forward in dragging lunge, long elongated steps, arms in a low parallel in front of the body, shifting his weight into the heel on the ball of the foot hands limp and the head jutting forward on each step in a strong, linear pathway (stood DSR facing DSL) (head juts sharp and staccato) - rooster strut - animalistic movement - marking his territory - mock alpha male
-The only female in the section - represents lust and in a way desperation - she enters from USL and does a circular hip action to bring the arm round the head and she does a series of hip circles as she steps towards SR while one of the males looks at her - objectification
-Quartet of male dancers - all shorter than alpha male - less superior - almost like backing dancers - near beginning hypnotically sway from side to side as if being controlled by the male all in unison - herd of animals - animalistic view of males

A

-Male rooster strut - mocking males and the social attitude towards women in the 1960s - shows leadership and dominant role
-When female hooks arms over male - shows her desperation, lust and neediness
-When the female crosses one leg over her supporting leg and brings her arms round to hug herself - trying to protect herself - sense of security and not succumbing to the ‘male charm’

Transition

A

-While the female is performing a solo DS, all of the other males Rooster strut on stage in a linear pathway, then the females walk on normally from either sides of the stage and walk towards US
-At the same time, the female soloist does a a hitch kick with the incorporation of a hugging gesture and she’s in plie second and bashes her hands off her head 3 times - confused mental state
-They then go into the new formation as the music fades out, two linear lines, males DS facing US and the females US facing DS and the female dancer performs the hugging gesture (one leg over supporting leg and wraps arms around herself)
