what is the babinski reflex?
- abnormal sign*
- great toe moves upward and other toes fan in response to stroking the bottom of the foot
what is the kernig’s sign?
indication of meningeal irritation - pain and/or resistance when leg is flexed at the knee
what is the brudzinski’s sign?
indication of meningeal irritation - knees flex upward and neck pain when neck is flexed
what is cushing’s triad?
dismal sign - ↓ HR, ↑ systolic pressure, and widening pulse pressure > 40
what are dolls eyes?
indicates midbrain injury/dysfunction - when turning the head to the right the eyes should move to the left and vice versa.this is in contrast to the painted eyes of a doll that always look straight forward (abnormal sign).
what are dermatome?
sensory levels for the spinal cord
what are raccoon’s eyes?
bilateral black eyes
what is battle’s sign?
bruising behind the ears - indicates basilar skull fractures
what is decerebrate posturing?
abnormal extension of extremities in response to noxious stimuli
what is decorticate posturing?
abnormal flexion of extremities in response to noxious stimuli
