Pronounced “may-ay-ma-tie”
Means: “The Rabbis say:”
- where the prefex “מ” shows the “from”
- and the “אימתי” shows the “when”.
- and the “מת” shows the “when”.
- So from when, that is, from what time, does.
- Song: Ad Ma tie (until when is mashiach)
אומרים
Pronounced “Kor-een” - means to read or to recite
Means: “They say:”
- where the prefex “קור” shows the “to read”
- and the “ין” shows the plural.
- and the “מת” shows the “when”.
- it’s a question because of the previous word
עד
Pronounced “Et-Shema”
means “the shema”
חצות
Pronounced “Cha-tzot”
Means “midnight” (the 12th hour)
- where the “ב” shows the “in”
- the “ערבין” shows the “evening”.
וחכמים אומרים עד חצות
The Rabbis say: The time for the recitation of the evening Shema is until midnight.
