What is a fibroadenoma?
Proliferations of stromal and epithelial tissue of breast lobules
Most common benign growth
Occur in women of reproductive age
Clinical features of fibroadenoma
Highly mobile lesion (breast mouse)
Well-defined
Rubbery
Can be multiple and bilateral
Management of fibroadenoma
Low malignant potential
Routine follow up appointments
Indications for excision
- > 3cm
- patient preference
What is an adenoma?
Benign glandular tumour
Occurs in older female population
Clinical features of adenoma
Nodular - easily mimic malignancy
Require triple assessment
What is a papilloma?
Benign breast lesion occurring in the subarelaor region
Clinical features of a papilloma
Bloody/clear nipple dischare
Appear similarly to ductal carcinomas - require biopsy
What is a lipoma
Benign adipose tumour
Clinical features of lipoma
Soft mobile lump
Lowe malignant potential
What is a Phyllodes tumour?
Rare fibroepithelial tumour - comprised of epithelial and stromal tissue
Occur in older women
Management of Phyllodes tumours
Commonly larger and grow rapidly
Widely excised - 1/3 have malignant potential `
