Belief And Teaching Of A Second Religion 2:1:7 Flashcards
Whay is the oral torah
The unwritten toeah given to moses by God
Whats the Halakhah
Jewish law from the written and oral torah
Why is the mishneh torah important
Maimonides intend to provide a complete statement of the oral law, so a jew whos mastered both the written torah and mishneh torah is in no need pf any other book.
The mishneh gives the correct meaning of the oral torah so no decisions on the halakhan can be accepted if it disagrees with the makmonides.
Keeping the mitzvots and free will
Mitzvots are commandments and therefore not optional. Judaism teaches that any jew must descide either to follow the mitzvots or their own free will and God created them in his own image.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male female he created them” (Genesis 1:27)
Why is observing the mitzvots or your own free will important to jews
It means that following the mitzvots is not something orchestrated from peoples nature as human beings, it is something they can be judged for by God.
Why is the mitzvots importnat jn understanding the realtionship between humans and the almighty
The word mitzvah is closely related to the hebre word “connections” and mitzvots is a way of connecting with God and jews are able to communicate with God.
The mitzvots is Gods way of reaching out to humans and helping them to love the correct way. By observing the mitzvots Jews are reaching back to God. Which is the menaing of the mosaoc covenant.
Whats the importance of the mitzvot for relationship between people
Only of jewish people really understand the mitvots they will keep them properly. Judaism teaches that through the mitzvots will come better behaviour and it is the aimnof judaism to help people behave the best way possible.
Each mitzvah has something to teach those less well off and teach of personal responsibilities and laws of pushishment of criminal acts that disrespect human dignity.
However some mitzvahs have no explanation such as kosher food but rabbis say they are from God so jews must observe them.
Whats the orthadox view about the importance of the mitzvot
It’s very important because they cover the jews entire life. No feature of life is uneffected by the mitzvots. So for orthadox jews there is a right and wrong way of doing things
Whats the liberal/reform views on the importance of the mitzvots
The mitzvots are not important for liberal jews as they dont regard the mitzvots coming to Moses directly for God. They believe observing the mitzvots is a matter of personal choice and its not as vital to liberal/reform jews lifes as it is for orthodox jews.
