Q
Why is Australopithecus not classified within the Genus Homo?
A
- They are too primitive. The arms were relatively long, and the finger bones were long and curved. The cranial capacity is apelike, like a modern chimpanzee. The jaw juts out and it snout like.
- What we do share is bipedalism. They only have one of the four criteria we use to define human.
- Homo Habilis, the first representative of the genus Homo adds tool manufacture to the definition of human and is thus the first representative of our genus.
