On what criteria is Australopithecus classified within the Family Hominid?
A
Bipedalism: two-footed, upright walkers.
- They were quite modern lacking the divergent big toe of the apes. Possessed the foot of a walker not that of a climber.
- Also the pelvis was quite similar to humans
Therefor as they share an anatomy suited for walking on two feet, it proves the creatures are far more like a human than like an ape.
-Palaeoanthropologists no longer include them in the ape taxonomy family but classified Australopithicus within the familiy Hominid
