Behavriousim Approach Flashcards
Who where the three main phycologist of this approach
Skinner, Pavlo and john
How long did behaviorism dominate
50 Years
What was skinners research
Skinner box experiment
- Tested rats and pigeons with operant condition where they pressed a lever by accident which released food causing a repeat.
- showed positive consequence cause change in behavior
What was Pavlov research
Dog salivation experiment
- tested dogs using a unconditioned item such as food with a neutral item such as a bell to stimulate a conditioned response when the bell became a conditioned stimuli.
- showed behavior can change through classic conditioning
What was Johns research
Little albert experiment
- tested classic conditioning through linking a fluffy white rat with a loud bang to evoke fear in a child. caused child to fear rats as shows the scary unconditioned fear due to a loud sound became associated with the rat.
- shows how emotion can be conditioned
What is behaviorism
The approach that assumes behavior is influenced from sensory experience.
what’s classic conditioning
Learning through association
what’s operant conditioning
learning from consequence
positive reinforcement
Increases likelihood of behavior
Negative reinforcement
increases likelihood of behavior through removing negative feeling
Punishment
decreases likely hood of behavior
Positives of behaviorism
Replicable (scientific credibility)
applicable
Negatives of behaviorism
Mechanistic view
Generalizability due to animal research
environmentally detremistic
where where studies carried out
In labs on animals
