Behaviouristic Perspective (social Area) Flashcards
Behaviourist perspective
-Key concepts
Classical conditioning = Pavlov-dogs associate sound of bell with arrival of food then salivated at Bell only.
Operant conditioning = Skinner/Bandura, reinforcement, punishment, vicarious, reinforcement.
Behaviourist perspective
Application
Therapy, systematic desensitisation, uses classical conditioning to overcome phobia, associate fear with relaxation.
Behaviourist perspective
-Links to core studies
Bandura et al - aggressive behaviour is led by observing role models
Chaney et al -positive reinforcement increased adherence through the Faler.
Behaviourist perspective,
-Similarities and differences
Similar to the cognitive area, excludes, emotional influences.
Differs from the individual differences area focuses on experimentation and direct observation
Behaviour perspective, evaluation
+ scientific, for example, Bandura attack controlled variables to show that aggressive models increase aggression.
-Reductionist complex behaviours are represented as stimulus response, e.g. fun healer creates pleasure
