behaviourist approach Flashcards
who discovered this approach and what did he state
Watson - Wundt approach was too vague and subjective
What is Classical conditioning
learning through association - pavlov - dogs
what is operant conditioning
learning through consequences - skinner - rats
what is positive reinforcement
behaviour is rewarded therefore behaviour increases
what is negative reinforcement
behaviour is removed to get rid of any consequences behaviour still increase tho
what is punishment
bad behaviour receives bad consequences
Positive evaluation point
Can be used as wide range applications
In prisons ,psychiatric wards
Condition people to get rid of their phobias
Negative evaluation point
Treated on animals (rats and dogs) not same as human - animals are exploited and can be seen as ungeralisabele and not highly valid data
Positive evaluation point
Approach was done in well controlled setting so has high empirical evidence to support the approach. ( skinner in box in lab ) gets rid of any extraneous variables
