What are the three structures of the mind
Conscious ,preconcious,unconscious
What is the ID
known as the selfish part of the personality mainly found in the unconscious part of the mind
What is the ego
The more rational part of the personality can be found in all the parts of the mind
What is the superego
Known as the perfectionist found in the conscious and pre conscious
What are the 5 stages of psycho sexual stages of development
Oral (0-1)
Anal (1-3)
Phallic(3-6)
Latency(6-11)
Genital (11+…)
What happens during the oral stage
The child gains pleasure from the mothers breasts
What happens during the anal stage
Pleasure gained from anus and they learn to control bowl movements
What happens during phallic stage
Oedipal / electra complex pleasured is gained from genitals
What happens during latency stage
earlier conflicts are repressed in unconscious mind (fixation can’t happen here )
What happens during genital stage
interest is shown to the opposite sex pleasure gained from there
What is the electra complex
Freud stated that girls are jealous of men - penis envy
What is Oedipal complex
Boys during phallic stage fear their fathers because they’re attracted towards their mom
Castration anxiety - scared dads will cut penis off
Positive evaluation point
Psychoanalysis - therapy still used today - used a lot try wide range application
Negative evaluation point
Temporal validity
Not necessary that the genital stage is changjng as people can be attracted to their own gender
