Behaviourist and learning approach Flashcards
Learning approach definition
How behaviour is learned from the world around us - through association, rewards and punishments or through the imitation of role models
Classical Conditioning
Learning by association. Unconditioned and conditioned response. Neutral and conditioned stimulus
Operant Conditioning
Learning by consequences. Positive and negative reinforcement and punishment
Social learning theory
learning through observation. Observation, imitation, modelling and vicarious reinforcement
Key assumptions
Behaviour is a learned response from environmental stimuli
Behaviour can be learned from observation and imitation
Vicarious reinforcement
Imitating or Copying a behaviour for which others are being rewarded for
Modelling
Demonstrating a behaviour to another person or imitating someone’s behaviour
Learning through observation
Observer actively focuses their attention on models behaviour
Imitation
Imitates the model most likely because they identify with the model
