Q

What is the process of systematic desensitisation?

A
  1. Gather information: extent of problem, source of problem, generate a list of fear-provoking stimuli
  2. List stimuli in hierarchal order
  3. Begin Graded Exposure: teach patient relaxation techniques
  4. Introduce least-fear provoking stimuli first
  5. Continue moving through the hierarchy until most fear-provoking stimuli are introduced and the patient can remain calm
  6. If the patient is too overwhelmed with a level and cannot return to relaxed state, can return to previous levels until relaxed again.
