Behaviors of Light Flashcards
What happens when light encounters an opaque material?
None of it is transmitted through, the light is either absorbed or reflected back
What happens when light passes through a material that is perfectly transparent?
Almost all of it is transmitted through the material (some light is reflected or absorbed)
Why does light passing through a window not appear refracted?
Because the light refracts twice, when it enters the window and when it exits a window. When exiting the window the light refracts back to the original direction it was going in.
What happens when light passes through a translucent material?
The rays get scattered in random directions as they refract. Some light is still refracted and absorbed
