Behavior Flashcards
Systematic densesitization
Create fear hierarchy
Then list most feared in between steps. Practice relaxation
Exposure therapy
Exposing person to stimulus hoping to treat them
Aversion therapy
Not always affective. Pair painful with unwanted behavior
Example: food association and alcohol
Operant conditioning
Voluntarily acts in a certain way. Link is made between voluntary behavior and what happened after
Edward thorndike
Created instrumental learning “puzzle box”
Law of effect
Behavior reinforced will likely continue. Satisfying consequence likely be repeated
Bf skinner
Operant conditioning. Called it the Skinner box. Leaver and food with a rat in a box. Slowly learns stepping on lever will release food
Abc’s of operant conditioning
Think of wrecks the dog.
Antecedent-stimuli that are present before a behavior occurs
Behavior- action. Response you’re looking for. Example: Rolling over
Consequences- rewards or punishments increase or decrease a behavior
Positive reinforcement
Reward will increase desired behavior. Want to see it repeated
Treat when rolling over
Primary
Instinctively satisfying. Unlearned
Food and water.
Secondary
Conditioned reinforcers
Strengthen response
Money attention good grades
Negative reinforcement
Increase desired response taking away something unpleasant
Ex: Advil takes away headache so you’ll take it again
Warm clothes, gambling may take away anxiety
Operant extinction
Behavior will disappear if not longer reinforced
Ex: no treats. Stop rolling over
Aversive punishment
Painful
Decrease in behavior
Ex: spanking, jail
Response cost
Take away something they want
Weaken or eliminate behavior
Ex: grounding or speeding tickets
