Q

How are beaches created?

A

Through deposition. They’re formed in the intertidal area between high and low tide where constructive waves push sediment onto the shore. It builds up and forms a beach.

Q

How are sandy beaches e.g. Benone formed?

A

Formed by low energy waves with a strong swash moving sandy materials up the beach with a constructive wave. They’re formed in bays where water is shallow. They usually have a gentle sloping profile as the water cant sink into the ground so the backwash has the ability removes some material.

Q

How are shingle beaches formed?

A

Formed by destructive waves therefore a much steeper beach. The smallest material is at the tideline. Most likely formed during stormy weather. The water flows easily through the surface of the beach (shingles) meaning that the backwash has less energy to erode the beach, causing a steep slope to form.
