Babies can’t see well how do they circumnavigate

Q

Bathing

A

Get water temp to no hotter than 104

get organized

make sure water depth isn’t so deep

WHO recommends waiting of 8 hours before bathing babies. They used to bath and swaddle them immediately and their blood sugar was off, heart rate was really high, baby was not doing well until this change.

Best to bath baby at home to keep our flora and bacterias with the baby

use Johnson and Johnson soap for infants

A

yes

19
Q

No longer clean around umbilical cords

A

Just leave them alone

a little redness, you’re fine

if you have redness all around the cord and stomach, call ped

if you see puss, call ped

umbilicals are stinky though

20
Q

how long until umbilicals fall off?

A

14 days

21
Q

holding baby for front / back

A

hold catycorner, and hold onto a major limb.
head into the armpit
hold onto leg
for example

then to wash back:
flip baby over to face down by crossing to other arm
same as before, hold one limb and head towards arm pit

the baby wants warm towels so you use a warmer to go hard core

make sure you wash between the folds of their skin

22
Q

hold baby like above question

A

always washing from the top to the bottom of the baby

24
Q

A

keep mouth closed so they don’t pee in it accidentally

25
Q

circumsitions

A

need to do it at beginning or urologists are usually 6 weeks out for appointments

water wipes

clean front to back

douse baby penis with vaseline
then plop the circular makeup pads

best for diaper rash, air it out, let air dry

if you need a rash cream
A&D cream
or
Triple paste, high zinc oxide (peds love it)

26
Q

diapering

A

new born diapers have a cresent C in the front will be more expense than ones that go straight across the top

Boys tend to urinate up and girls urinate wide

tape always go in the back

the two sets of ruffle seals, they need to be facing out or you have poop blow outs

if you see the yellow line vertically, if that changes to blue or green, you can’t tell if it needs to be changed.

there are blue lines where the tape attaches, if you can’t go past the blue lines, it’s time to size up for your baby

27
Q

how can you tell if diaper is too tight

A

should be able to take two fingers and pull away at the back of the leg hole. you should be able to see both bottom cheeks

28
Q

how do you know baby has enough food

A

feeding on demand

after day 3 how many diapers? 3
day 2, 2 diapers
black until day 3, should be green

day 5 poop should be yellow seedy and doesn’t smell

if day 5 it’s still black in diaper, you need to see pediatrician

29
Q

infant bed

A

infant beds should be the same height as our bed

babies should be put the sleep on their backs

keep nothing in there. no blankets, bumpers, toys, no mattress pad, pillows.
they need firm flat fitted sheets on the baby mattress.

if baby is hungry, you can feed from bed.

in 6 months the baby crawled over and fed themselves

30
Q

other investments

A

warm wipes will keep baby sleepy

towel warmer for after bathing

31
Q

feeding

A

if baby arm is swinging while padding, he doesn’t like burping

he will like rubbing his back instead of patting for burping

32
Q

baby’s are most wakeful at leg or arm ambulation

A

every moment of their arms or legs wakes them up

33
Q

what should baby’s wear to bed

A

onesies are base layer

some have scalaps on the top around shoulders are armpit

babies don’t like things pulled over their face, they get grumpy about that.

open whole thing up like a donut, then look at them through the whole so they don’t have eyes covered at all.

with the scalap arms. you can pull it down over shoulders and off at the bottom instead of over the top. that way if they have a poop blow out it doesn’t cover eyes while taking it off.

second layer
Halo sleep gym jam sleep sack

if you’re hot, baby’s hot
if you’re cold, baby’s cold
baby’s always have 1 more layer than we do

34
Q

flatheads on baby’s

A

you can wear your baby so that you can carry the kid around with you and better for their head shape

35
Q

Sleep locations

A

never leave them right infant of or under windows

nor in front of an ac vent

best to avoid SIDs by putting a slight breeze and or crack the window for the baby

36
Q

more on safe sleep practices.

swaddling

A

few ways

skinny babies can flip while in swaddles

they will suffocate if this happens

tummy time helps avoid this from happening so they are strong enough to lift up.

open blanket
turn it into diamond shape

fold into middle so its point down triangle

one arm out
opposite side take that Side of

37
Q

tummy time

A

on floor on covers while facing you head to head or Side by side

they do a pushup kind of and left head. strengthens neck muscles

the other way is tummy time with skin to skin contact with me on my back and them on my chest.

38
Q

babies will cry for about 2 hours

A

Around dusk or midnight babies will do this, it’s tough.
