What is Tzedaka

A

Righteousness, justice or charity
- Obligation to do what is just
- Care for Widow, Orphan, foreigner or poor
- Jewish law - every 7 years, debts are made clean, those in slavery due to debts are released
Forms of Tzedaka in Tradition
- Gift or no interest Loan to help the poor
- Anonymous donation to poor
- giving unwillingly

Traditional Jews give 10% of income to charity
- Newly weds give to Tzedaka
- Kind Actions “gemilut Hasadim”, visiting a hospital or prison

- Paamonim: Non profit, helps those with financial problems, give advise, how to manage debt
- Magan David: Israeli equvalent of Red Cross, provides Adom, medical, ambulance and disaster services
- Jewish Care, Health and social care
- Tzedek, UK based charity for sustainable development in Ghana and India
- World Jewish Relief, UK based help the poorest Jewish communities and deal with international disaster
