bb5 Flashcards
extrafusal fiber
provide the force of contraction, controlled by alpha motor neurons that form synapses with them.
intrafusal fiber
detects change in muscle length, controlled by gamma motor neurons.
Golgi tendon organ
Contains stretch receptors for tendons
Monosynaptic stretch
reflexes
Control limb movements when weight is applied or removed quickly and maintain upright posture
Ventromedial Corticospinal Tract
Direct, ipsilateral, goes to trunk and proxal muscles
Dorsolateral Corticospinal Tract
Direct, contralateral, goes to distal limb muscles
Dorsolateral Corticorubrospinal Tract
Indirect, stops at red nucleus, contralateral, goes to distal limb muscles
Ventromedial Cortico-brain stem-spinal Tract
Indirect, stops at brainstem, ipsilateral, goes to trunk and proximal muscles
Hierarchy of sensorimotor system
Sensorimotor association cortex–> Secondary motor cortex–> Primary motor cortex–> Brain stem motor nuclei
Sensorimotor association cortex
Top of the hierarchy. 2 parts: posterior parietal association cortex (provides spatial information; receives visual-, auditory-, and the somatosensory information) and dorsolateral prefrontal association cortex
