Explain the second stage of it?
Although three other people stated that they should be king, the Witan chose Harold Godwineson.
Explain the first stage of it?
In 1065 Edward the Confessor died. The country went into mourning.
What is the third stage of it?
Harald Hardraada was not happy with the Witan’s decision and sailed across the water from Norway to attack Harold.
What is the fourth stage?
Harold prepared his army and marched North from London to Stamford Bridge near York, to fight Harald.
What is the fifth stage?
The two sides met and fought a fierce battle.
what is the sixth stage?
May people were killed, including Harald Hardraada.
What is the seventh stage?
The survivors from Harald’s army sailed back home.
What is the eighth stage?
Harold’s happiness did not last long. William, Duke of Normandy, believed the time was now right for him to challenge Harold for the throne.

A messenger rode to tell Harold that William was due to attack

Harold marched his men back down South and prepared to do battle once again.

Why did the Norman’s win?
Better prepared, well rested, more enthusiastic, has more archers, more soldiers, has Calvary and much better tactics
Why did the English lose?
Tired- just fought at Stamford Bridge, less well prepared, had been forced march back down south, less soldiers(7000), men disappear back home, leaves his best archers behind
