- bathing w/ water temp. of 18 C - 32 C
- for clients w/ very high temp, over 40 C
Cooling/cool sponge bath
bathing in tepid water w/ temp. of 37 C
Cool water/Tepid sponge bath
Local application of water or a medicated solution
can remove dead tissue or soften encrusted
secretions
reduces pain and swelling of inflamed or irritated
skin surfaces
Soak
uses 4ml (1tsp) NaCL to 500ml water
(1pt). It has cooling effect, cleans and decreases
skin irritation.
Saline
uses 720ml (3cups)
cooked oatmeal in a cheesecloth bag. Tie the
bag securely and twirl it in the tub until the
water is opalescent
Oatmeal or Aveeno
uses 0.45kg (1lb) cornstarch
in sufficient cold water to
dissolve it; then add boiling
water until the mixture is
thick and add to the tub water
Cornstarch
- uses 4ml (1tsp) sodium
bicarbonate to 500ml (1pt)
water, or 120-360ml(4-12oz) to
120L (30gal)
Sodium Bicarbonate
tablet form which are
crushed, dissolve in a little water and added to the
bath. It cleans and disinfects and treats infected skin
areas
Potassium Permanganate
- has undergone rectal or vaginal surgery
- post partum patients
- with local or rectal irritation (hemorrhoids, fissures)
cleanse and reduces inflammation of the perineal and anal areas, aids in wound healing
induce voiding (urinary retention)
Sitz Bath
more effective in relieving pain in the postpartum period.
