basin drainage system Flashcards
evaporation
the process in which liquid changes to water vapor from puddles/streams. evaporation rates increases in hot/dry/windy conditions and with larger soil surface area
transpiration
when water is drawn from the soil into the plant and leaves the plant as water vapor through the stomata.
evapotranspiration
processes where water moves from a land surface to the atmosphere via evaporation or transpiration
stomata
small pores on the surface of leaves. regulates gas exchange
potential evapotranspiration
the amount of evaporation that would occur if an unlimited water source were available.
river discharge
volume of water that flows into the sea or that moves in channels {rivers/streams} water enters the channel as direct precipitation or other flows.
direct channel precipitation
precipitation {snow/rain/sleet} that falls directly onto the surface of a river/stream channel.
Q=AV
Q?

V?
Q = Discharge,
A = Cross Sectional Area,
V= Velocity
Measured in m3/second – Cumecs.
m3/s = cubic meter per second
