Basics Of Homeostasis Flashcards
What is internal environment? And what are 4 important factors and how does homeostasis relate to them?
Anything to do with inside the body
Important factors: body temperature, ion concentrations, water content, blood glucose levels
Homeostasis works to keep these factors the same, so the internal environment doesn’t change
How does homeostasis maintain body temperature?
By sweating (removes heat) or shivering (adds heat)
Define homeostasis
Homeostasis is the process of maintaining a stable internal environment, no matter what the external environment is
Why does homeostasis matter?
Internal body factors need to be within certain ranges in order to function properly, and stay healthy and safe, otherwise we get sick or even die
What is healthy body temperature?
Between 36.5•c and 37.5•c
