Main panels, importing, initial cuts in source monitor

1
Q

What’s the main purpose of the source monitor?

A

It’s where you decide in and out points of a video clip - you don’t want to put the whole clip most of the time into the program monitor/ sequence.

And you could be taking several parts of one clip into a sequence.

Q

What is the ‘project pane’? (3)

A

It’s where you assemble assets. 1, import 2, organise into folders 3, view timeline & adjustment layer icons.

It’s where you import all media for a project and where you decide how to store/organise it, i.e. folder structure, as well as non-imported items including timeline icons & adjustment layers.

6
Q

Why should you keep all your media in the same local parent folder?

A

Because when you import media via the project panel you are not actually importing the media into the project, you importing the address to the location of the media.
So if you move the media the project will no longer work. Best to move all assets/media to the project parent folder.
I.e. to ensure the integrity of the video project.

Vertically:
Using the small nav/zoom bars on the right - one next to the video, and the other next to the audio channels.

19
Q

How do you clear in and out markers in your source panel clip?

A
  1. Make sure you have selected the source panel
  2. Top menu bar>Markers
  3. > Clear In and Out

Or… u can just RC in the source panel

20
Q

What’s the best way to set and ins outs on a clip in the source monitor?

A
  1. If only selecting one cut from a clip, it’s still good to use markers to keep a record of your cut ( in case you land up moving the in & out);
  2. For multiple cuts defo need markers to note the multiple ins/outs.

Open the markers panel on the opposite screen to the source panel.
Set markers for each in and out that u want on the clip, naming and describing each clip.
Then you can easily navigate to each in and out section of the clip to set the IN and OUT to drop into the timeline.

21
Q

Issue: i set multiple markers up to represent in and outs for a clip in the source monitor.

I moved the first clip into the timeline no problem.

But the second clip only took the video not the audio, why?

A

I checked the timeline and the audio track wasn’t active for ‘source patching for inserts and overwrites’ in the timeline. I highlighted this and it worked.

22
Q

How do you ensure the playhead in the timeline is placed exactly at the end of the media?

A

Shift + drag the playhead with mouse.
