What was John Lock’s theory?
He agrees with Hobbs that we give consent to someone having the power.
However there is a limit to how much they can do before the power can be taken away

The social contract theory and that once you give the power over it cannot be taken back
What is the difference between the state and a state?
- a state is a country/ territory within which sovereignty (ultimate authority) can be identified.
- the state is referring to institutions within the country e.g the armed forces. Typically more permanent
What is legislature?
Parliaments main role is to pass the laws made by the government.
What is the role of the executive?
Referred to as the government whose three roles are
- develop new legislation and present it before legislature
- to arrange for the implementation of laws
- organising state run services
What is the judiciary’s role
Refers to the legal system and judges. Their job is to enforce the law. Involved in legal cases that involve politics.
