Basic Measurable Dimensions of Behavior Flashcards
What are the measurable dimensions of behavior?
Repeatability, temporal extent, and temporal locus
Why does behavior have three fundamental and measurable dimensional quantities?
Because behavior occurs within and across time
What is repeatability and its measures?
Instances of a behavior can occur repeatedly through time. count, rate
What is temporal extent and its measures?
Every instance of behavior occurs during some amount of time. duration
What is temporal locus and its measures?
- when a behavior occurs with respect
to other events of interest - the amount of time that elapses between two consecutive
instances of a response class Latency, interresponse time
What is count?
Count is a simple tally of the number of occurrences of a behavior
What is counting time
The observation
period that should always be noted when reporting
measures of count… to allow behavior analysts to make useful program
decisions or analyses
What is rate?
the number of responses per unit of tirne
What does rate do that count doesn’t?
Combines the counting time with number of responses
What is celeration?
A measure of how rates of response change over time, or acceleration/deceleration
What is accelerration
a participant responds faster over successive
counting periods
What is deceleration?
decelerates when responding slows over
successive observations
How is celeration measured?
rate per unit of time
