What are the reasons that you can stop performing Basic Life Support?
The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) tells you to stop
The patient has return of circulation and starts responding and breathing normally
You become too exhausted to continue
Doctor orders cessation of CPR and the patient is pronounced deceased
Under what conditions would you apply Basic Life Support?
When the patient does not have the cardiac output needed to keep them conscious or their airway is occluded which leads to their breathing becoming compromised
What is ALS?
Advanced Life Support. More advanced form of life support that includes the ability to administer medications and invasive procedures to help stabilise the patient
What is the optimal bpm for compressions?
100-120
