Basic Interpretation and Normal Anatomy Flashcards
what are the steps in basic interpretation
shade localization periphery and shape internal structure mass effects formulate an interpretation
A radiolucent shade is
appearing dark or black radiographically
a mixed density shade is
appearing both dark and light radiographically
a radiopaque density is
appearing light or white radiographically
an epicenter
is an indication as to where the disease started and may help determine the features of growth and tissue origin
if epicentre is above the IAC
it is odontogenic in origin
if epicentre is below the IAC
non odontogenic in origin
if epicentre is in IAC
neuromuscular in origin
An epicentre within the dental papilla is indicative of
Leukemia, lymphoma, langerhans cells of histiocytosis
this type of border is non corticated and with no bony reactions around the missing bone
punched out border
this type of border blends into normal trabecular pattern, but less defined than a corticated border
sclerotic border
this is a mixed density entity with a well defined border, but also showing a a radiolucent soft tissue capsule surrounding the mixed density centre of the lesion
soft tissue capsule
this border is difficult to determine because where the lesion begins compared to where normal is difficult to tell apart
invasive border
what is a true multilocular shape
it contains internal compartments separated by septae
circular/ round shaped lesions suggests
mostly of cystic (hydraulic) or potentially tumour growth
