basic info (RNA) Flashcards
what are the 3 types of RNA?
tRNA, rRNA, and mRNA.
what does each type do?
mRNA (messenger RNA)
Carries genetics information from DNA to the ribosomes
rRNA (ribosomal RNA)
Located in the ribosomes and decodes the mRNA
tRNA (Transfer RNA)
Carries the amino acids to the ribosomes
how is RNA similar to DNA
RNA and DNA both have:
nucleotides
C,G, and A as the bases
a phosphate
a sugar
what are the bases in RNA?
Adenine (A)
Uracil (U)
Guanine (G)
Cytosine ( C )
uracil is replaced for thymine.
how is RNA different from DNA?
RNA has a ribose, DNA has deoxyribose
RNA has the base uracil, DNA has the base Thymine
RNA is single stranded, DNA is double stranded
what is RNA used in?
RNA is used in protein synthesis.
what are the two steps in protein synthesis
Transcription and Translation
(transcription first, then translation)
