What is Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)?
It is the impediment of blood flow within the peripheral vascular system due to vessel damage
It provides circulation to the arms, hands, legs, and feet
Affects the arterial (peripheral arterial disease) and the venous (peripheral venous disease)
What are the clinical manifestations?
- aching
- cramping
- inducing fatigue or weakness
- pain
- ischemic rest pain
- decreased ability to work
What are the assessments findings of PAD?
- sensation of coldness
- numbness
- extremities are cool and pale
What are the risk factors for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)?
- Smoking
- Uncontrolled HTN
- High Cholesterol (obesity)
- Diabetes
What are the risk factors for Peripheral Venous Disease?
- Female
- Pregnancy
- Obesity
- Standing/sitting for long periods
- Advanced age
What is the main cause of PAD?
Atherosclerosis
What are the different types of PAD?
- Raynaud’s Disease
- Buerger’s Disease
What is Raynaud’s Disease?
It is a disease where there are vasospasm of the peripheral arteries
