Basic Eyeglass Tools Flashcards
Interpupillary Distance Rule (PD)
Used to make sure the frame front is even. Lay your PD rule across the ocular side of the frame front, just below the temples at the endpiece. When the PD rule is touching both endpieces, it should be equidistant from the frame at its two nasal points, just above the nosepads. This is also known as vertical alignment or four-point touch
Temple Angling Pliers
-Used if the temples are not even when viewed from the side.
-If the endpieces are aligned with the hinge, then the temple hinge is bent and must be straightened. The hinges themselves must be realigned. This would be a cold bend (i.e., the frames are not heated), regardless of the frame material.
What are other hand tools used for adjusting eyeglasses?
1.) Fiberjaw Pliers- Adjusting bridges, end pieces and temples.
2.) Needle Nose Pliers- For delicate adjustments.
3.) Nosepad Pliers- For nosepad assembly adjustments.
4.) Straight cutting Pliers- Cutting screws.
5.) Pin Vice (Screwdriver)- Removing and replacing screws.

warm beads
