Basic Electricity Review Flashcards
What is ohm’s law?
The flow of current through a conductor is directly proportional to the voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance.
Describe electricity
The movement and interaction of electrons.
What is electromotive force or voltage?
The force that causes electrons to move in an electrical circuit.
What is resistance?
Something that resists the flow of electrons.
What is Kirchoff’s Voltage Law?
The sum of the voltage drops around any loop of a circuit is equal is equal to the voltage of the source
What are 5 ways to produce electricity?
Heat
Chemical action
Pressure
Light
Magnetism
What is Kirchoff’s Current Law?
The current leaving any point is equal to the current arriving at that point, which means current is the same anywhere in a series circuit.
What is a thermocouple?
A device consisting of two different conductors (usually metal alloys) that produce a voltage, proportional to a temperature difference, between either ends of the two conductors
AC phases inductors
Ina a purely inductive circuit voltage lead current by 90
AC phases capacitance
In a purely capacitive circuit current leads voltage by 90
What is reactance?
The opposition to the flow of AC caused by both inductive and capacitive reactance.
What is impedance?
The total opposition to the current flow in an AC circuit.
What are some aircraft systems that use electricity?
Engine starting
Flight surface actuation
Landing gear actuation
Ignition
Instrumentation
Conventional flow vs Electron flow
Conventional flows from positive to negative
Electron flows from negative to positive
How is AC current produced?
By a rotating source of electricity
