Avionics Flashcards
Aviation Electronics are referred to as?
Avionics
Why was radio communication needed?
So aircraft could complete flights over long distances.
What was the drawback of vacuum tube diodes?
Required lots of power, generated lots of heat, and very fragile.
When are N-P-N transistors turned on?
When a positive voltage, compared to the emitter, is put on the base.
When is a P-N-P transistor turned on?
When a negative voltage, compared to the emitter, is put on the base.
What happens to the current that flows in the collector/emitter?
It will be proportional to the change in the base. It will usually be multiples of the base. This means they can amplify a signal.
What makes a good insulator or conductor?
The numbers of electrons on the valence shelf. Less electrons good conductor, more electrons good insulator.
What is the flow of electrons through a diode?
Electron vs conventional.
What is RAM?
Random access memory that is used for temporary storage in a computer system.
What is ROM?
Read-only memory is a type of nonvolatile memory in a computer that is not lost when power to the computer is lost.
What is NVRAM?
Non-volatile random access memory is random access memory that is retained, even when power is lost.
What is a logic gate?
Provide a set output signal based on one or more input signals.
What is the wave length of low frequency?
Long lengths.
What is the wave length of high frequency?
Short waves
What are ground waves?
-Travel close to the ground
-VLF to MF waves
-AM broadcast, NDBs and ADFs
