Basic EKG Tracing Flashcards
(1) Right arm - anywhere between wrist and shoulder.
(2) Left arm - anywhere between wrist and shoulder.
(3) Right leg - anywhere between ankle and torso.
(4) Left leg - anywhere between ankle and torso.
(5) V1 - 4th ICS to the right of the sternum.
(6) V2 - 4th ICS to the left of the sternum.
(7) V3 - Midway between V2 and V4.
(8) V4 - 5th ICS at the midclavicular line.
(9) V5 - Anterior axillary line at the same level as V4.
(10) V6 - Midaxillary line at the same level as V4 and V5.
Placement of EKG leads for 12 lead:
the first deflection prior to the QRS complex is the __-wave. It represents depolarization of the right and left atrium.
P wave
is the time between the start of the P wave and the start of the QRS complex. Normal PR interval is
0.12-0.2 seconds.
PR interval
This represents depolarization of the
ventricles. Normal QRS duration is less than
0.12 seconds.
QRS complex
This wave it follows the QRS complex. It represents the repolarization of the ventricles.
T-wave
What interval starts at the QRS complex and ends at the end of the Twave.
It represents the time of ventricular activity including both
depolarization and repolarization. Normal interval 0.36-0.44 seconds.
QT interval
What segment between the end of the QRS complex and the start of the T-wave
It should be at the same level on the EKG tracing as the PR interval.
ST Segments
What wave represents the start of myocardial ischemia.
ST Depression
What wave represents full thickness myocardial infarction.
Tissue Death -STEMI
ST segment elevated and stays elevated
Normally are upright except in V1
T waves
This wave could represent ischemia and should be of
concern.
T wave inversion
represents the lateral aspect of the heart and
receives blood from the LCx.
Leads I, aVL, V5-V6
represents the inferior aspect of the heart and receives blood from the RCA.
Leads II, III, aVF
represents the septal area of the heart and receives blood from the Left Anterior Descending Artery (LAD)
Leads V1-V2
represents the anterior area of the heart (in particular the LV) and receives blood from the LAD.
Leads V3-4
